The happy project

An adaptive emotional socio-technical system approach

This research group studies on the field of social informatics which aims to present a new mining methodology. An emotional socio-technical system (STS) measures Turkish online happiness in software systems in order to give automatic feedback to the systems that try to minimize the time and effort of human beings. A wide variety of organizations may be interested in this research, which could be applied in many sectors.

STSs are the systems in which the social dimension is designed at a high level as well as the technical dimension in terms of architecture to facilitate human life. Let’s dream! Imagine an STS measuring emotions. Let the system be integrated into a HCI typed TV remote controller. Then answer short visual questions or play a small game by collecting points through the screen. This way, the system will recommend movies that match your current emotional mood.

This is a system that measures emotion on a personal level. It analyzes the data it receives from you and sends feedback to the system at runtime. The use of real-time data enables users to convey their emotions instantly. Let's include the emotions of the crowd. When the emotions of the crowd are understood, system designers can lead the crowd to change the behavior of that crowd with persuasive technology.

The most general purpose of the research is to develop an STS (socio-technical system) that measures and manages happiness in Turkish social networks to provide automatic feedback to software systems that try to minimize the extra time and effort that users spend. We present STS requirements.

We are working on two types of STSs:

We are working on two types of STSs:
The happy brand is an STS which measures a brand’s and the customers’ happiness. We also work on maximizing happiness with systems.

The social detox therapist is a socio-technical adviser which warns social media users when their happiness declines

We include the gamification, cybernetic behavior analysis, and persuasive technology fields in the researches.
